Fanlistings 101;

they tell us to explain it

Pretty much everyone knows what a fanlisting is by now, but just in case you're new to the hottest listing fad to hit internets since cliques and webrings, here's a general rundown.

A fanlisting is a joinable listing for fans of a specific subject or topic. When you join a fanlist, your name and country are placed on a list of other fans who have also joined. Fanlists that have been approved by The Fanlistings or The Anime Fanlistings and are listed in their directories are considered "official" as opposed to those who are not.

Fanlistings are completely fan-based, fan-made, and fan-maintained. They do not have any kind of affiliation with celebrities, companies, etcetera, that would otherwise make them official from a legal or copyright standpoint. When a fanlisting refers to itself as "official", it's referring to the notion of being the only fanlist for that specific subject that is currently listed in The Fanlistings and The Anime Fanlistings directories.
